Thanks John. Yes the chocolate was delicious. I think they make much nicer chocolate on the continent that they do in the UK. But I need to be sure about that so I'll be conducting some more practical tests over the coming weeks........

But I agree with what you say about specialities. I'll look at any ideas you have with interest. Best wishes.
Thanks Chris. When I take photos for the site I have the camera set at its lowest resolution but of course these wrappers were scanned rather than photographed so I guess that's why the file size was so large. But I've now discovered how to reduce it to a smaller file - one never stops learning. And, of course, the good news is there is now a bid on the item.
Well Done Braccles.

Great to see you found some Chocolate Wrappers and that one of my regular buyers has already made a bid on them.

I think we need to build the site with lots of little specialist sales, just like this.

Plus of course our regualr sales.

Have a few other ideas and will try to get some more specialist buyers here.

Again well done, hope you enjoyed eating the chocolate
Yes Peter.

Pic size is important. They should be no larger than 400 x 400 pix. There is a rezizer built in, but i would imagine that would struggle with some very large pics.
At last I've listed my first set of chocolate wrappers here as an auction, but the photo wouldn't upload despite 2 or 3 attempts. Maybe it's too big but most sites will automatically reduce it to the correct site. Anyway I will have to leave it for the moment as I have a dentist appointment shortly and then some shopping. So I'll have another go this evening.

http://www.auctionsworldwide.net/item.php?id=1000003746
I've been emailing the catalogue to various friends and contacts but the file size seems to be around 5mb. That's not a problem if you're on broadband but I have one friend who can't accept files anything like that size and I guess he's not alone. I wonder if it's possible to compress it into a zip file? I don't know much about that. I've received a few downloads as zip files but I've never created one myself to send anybody.
The catalogue size is A5 Robin, so you should be able to print it

You probably need to reset your printer paramaters.
OK, I got the PDF file with the Site Magazine & Catalogue, but it is so BIG. When I try to print it on my printer, the printing is way too little to read. How is it to be printed? It says it is 19.02 by 12.96 in size. I don't have any way of printing something that big. Is that called A3 size? My printer doesn't have that size paper. I once had a scanner with that size of bed, but it died. I guess the magazine just has to be read on the computer in the Acrobat Reader. I can read it in there. How can I distribute it?

Robin
I have listed an auction of a Philips portable DVD player. I put it in the electronics & photography section, then chose DVD equipment, and then chose DVD recorders/players. But if you look at either of these last two sub-categories it appears nothing is listed in them. But if you go into the DVD recorders/players my listing is in fact there. But a lot of people won't browse a category which appears to be empty. If this could be sorted I'd be grateful. Also there is a typo as recorders appears a reacorders. Thanks.
I hope to list some items on Sunday including an unused portable and boxed Philips DVD player (Region 2). The last few weeks have been very difficult with one thing after another including my car giving up the ghost. So today I have a journey into the back of beyond (well it feels like it) to pick up the replacement. The old one was 18 years old but the new one is "only" 9 years old. Yes they're both Volvo's!
Many of you have posted errors with pics when editing. There is not any bug or problem here.

Whats been happening is most of you have not seen your pic when in edit mode so you have been adding another pic which has caused you problems.

When you edit the pic is still there in your listing but it doesnt show in the picture bar (image upload) when your in edit mode. Simply leave this blank unless you wish to change the picture.
I listed them to run for 3 days!

As they stand now, they are still pretty useless because I don't think many people are going to bid on something that's not supposed to end for another 2 months, but I guess that's better than 6 years.

I also now have one more with the wrong end time:
http://www.auctionsworldwide.net/item.php?id=1000003483

Thank you much.
Yes we are working on these.

They are all mysql database issues. Dont worry and yes it proves we are the site of the future. Guess we have opened a worm hole into 2014. Now to find winning lottery numbers for the past years since 2008.
Mine are OK so I guess you have been unlucky and yours were somehow corrupted by recent events. I'm sure Chris or one of the technical people will read your message and quickly put things right.

Does any of you have this weird problem?
I just noticed that several of my auctions that are listed to end in 3 days show ending in 1 month 29 days ... with end time in October 2014! AWW is really the auction site of the future!

Can it be fixed? Here are the auctions:
http://www.auctionsworldwide.net/item.php?id=1000003473
http://www.auctionsworldwide.net/item.php?id=1000003450
http://www.auctionsworldwide.net/item.php?id=1000003484
http://www.auctionsworldwide.net/item.php?id=1000003468

Another thing: ended and sold items still show in a search list for active items. Can this be fixed too?
I think the above listings are some that got messed up during the crash and that I just relisted (I hadn't realized they were out of commission because they were showing as active).
Thank you much.
The world Fayre issue magazine is very nearly finished, however i could do with a few more listings to add to all your advertising pages.

Please try and add a few more different listings that will attract more buyers to the site.

Thanks

chris
It's a US publication but is of use for anyone contemplating a rescue dog of any breed. http://www.auctionsworldwide.net/item.php?id=1000001309
What we are going to do is make some changes to the home page.

We are asking the site to pull just too many things from the database at the same time. Its important the site load, especially the home page, very quickly, so we shall have the links shown differently, delete the Meet Our Community, and make some design changes. There are currently 3 login links on the home page so the login box will also go.

Some other changes and a small redesign will also take place too. This will not affect the running of the site and no down time will be experienced at all.

More as we start to make the changes
Hi all

Now the problem some of you are experiencing with slow loading of the home page is due to the cron jobs.
Firstly links are very quick, however when you enter the site first time, the crons are trying to run too many
events at the same time. So we are looking at these and will reset them after we have sorted the few minor bugs we have left.

Chris
Hi John

I have occasionally had to have 2 or 3 goes at loading the site though once I'm in I haven't had any problems with slowness. Mind you I don't use every part of the site. But I did have a strange occurrence a day or two back when I posted a new thread in the Chatterbox about the dangers of fake emails purporting to be news alerts from CNN and others (the links install dangerous software which can enable your computer to be controlled remotely). The next time I visited the site the thread had completely disappeared. I contacted Chris and yesterday he explained that the site had just migrated to its own server and not everything in the database had fully loaded. That was being worked on. Apparently my thread still exists though at the moment I can't see it. So I guess your experiences are tied up with all this. I hope my reply doesn't go invisible too!
Auction Winner Information

Can I ask other sellers what information they believe we should receive when someone bids and wins an auction on AWW?

At the moment we receive only the buyers email address.

I would believe that when someone has bid on an item and then won that item at auction we should receive the name and address of the buyer. What do other sellers think?

I find it very unprofessional that I have to write to a buyer to ask his name and address after the auction. Plus I can not send an Invoice using Google Checkout without the buyers name.

The thoughts of others most welcome.

Is anyone having problems with relisting auctions?

I am finding that no matter how many auctions I want to relist, only the top one that I tick is relisted.

No matter if I tick 2 or 10 still only the top auction is relisted.

Is anyone else having similar problems?

Not sure how it could be a problem specific to my computer.

Also it took nearly 20 minutes for me to relist four auctions this morning, again is anyone else having similar problems or is it just me?

Thanks for any info, John.
Thanks for the explanation Chris. It seems to be a continual battle everywhere against crooks and bored schoolkids attempting to hack into everything. I really feel more international co-operation is needed to get to grips with the problem and as for spam it is getting worse & worse. Everytime I log onto my main email account there is another batch there! Ugh!
Ok a quick explanation for you all.

The hostgator server was compromised, which resulted in a complete database crash on that server. For me that was the final straw as far as they are concerned. It took nearly 36 hours for this to be fully resolved and now the site is back and working and I am truely knackered to say the least.

Our solution has been implemented as you know. We are migrating to a new and better server. The site has been loaded and all 35 mysql databases setup. AWW consists of just over 54 thousand files. All these have or are been checked for any error and the links and integration has to be checked too. All this is virtually finished. within the next few hours we will be live on the new server, barring any errors we find and have to solve first.

There will be one annoying thing about this. a 20/30 minute site downtime when the migration takes place, and some listings WILL lose there pictures. Theres nothing i can do about this so accept my apologies if its your pics that are missing. I will do everything i can to get these accross but it may not be possible.

You have all been very patient and i ask for a little more of the same till this is done and completed.

Thanks

Chris.
Thank you very much for the update, John.
They must have been pulling their hair out.
I figured something of that sort was happening.
I was impressed at how quickly Chris responded and put up a notice on the front page letting everyone know of a problem.
Nice to know AWW didn't get hacked in the process.
AWW Offline Update.

Have just been speaking with Chris who along with Mary have been working on the site.

There was a problem but not with AWW, but as I understand with the host database, which had been hacked into which in turn caused a complete database crash on the server.

The site is now up and running but you might find it a little slow as the site is being moved to the new server over the next 24 hours.

Pleased to say that at no point was AWW hacked into. All being well the new server should see that we not suffer this problem in the future.
OK everyone heres an update.

The hostgator database was compromised, not AWW and i emphasise that. In fact the whole server was compromised too.

We have got round the problem and the site is up and running again. it took 19 hours continious work to resolve. There will be a little downtime later this evening when hopefully i will repoint the DNS to our new dedicated server which we have been seting up for a few days now.

I just want you all to know that at no time was aww hacked or compromised in any way.

Now i am off to get some sleep and will be back on live support later this evening if you have any questions to ask

Chris.
Hope so too. The problem is that prospective buyers often won't have another go if they can't get onto a site first time. Anyway must go and have breakfast. Have a good day.
Hi Braccles. I have the same problem. Have spoken to Chris who is aware.

Again seems to be the company who hosts the site.

Seems a joke that they take you money and then you can be down for more than 12 hours.

Hope back up soon as I have loads to list.
When I loaded the AWW site yesterday evening there was a message on the front page about the site experiencing technical difficulties. This morning I had to have a number of goes to get the site to load and it did eventually but it was painfully slow. Most people would I think have given up but those who persevered were faced with a mainly blank opening page with an error message. The categories on the left were present but most of what is normally on that page was just a blank white space.

Getting into the forum from that page wasn't a problem so I can only hope the site will be back to normal asap.
Unfortunately there seem to be technical difficulties at the moment so I can't view these items which is a shame. No doubt the problem is being attended to.
Brackles.

Do have a look for unusual Chocolate Wrappers.

Just sold the Three Sets I had in auction and there were 14 bids in total and I got $5.00 more than I expected. It all helps.

Remember that Beer Bottle Lables, Tea Bags in the Foil Sealed Packets and any kind of Transport Tickets and Timetables which are often given away are also very collectible and worth putting in the Auctions
Hi everyone,
Thank you very much for all the feedback.
I'm glad to know that I've finally managed to get something that's compatible with several platforms.
What a nice store you have, Mimie! I especially like your painted items.
Might be the way the picture was taken, but your tractor sitting on a corner with a light background makes me think that it's at the edge of a lake, just ready to reel back in the big one that got away.
Take a look, guys and see what I mean http://www.auctionsworldwide.net/cottage/storeitem.php?item=19
Well, I'm off to list a few more things on the auction site, then I'll work on a store.
I'll be back to show off my new listings... and have the links picked up by the search engines!
Have a great, full-of-sales, weekend!
